This page lists every cookie Restaurant Versus sets, what each one is for, and how long it lasts. Nothing here is shared with an advertiser, and nothing follows you to another website.
The short version
Four cookies keep the site working — signing you in, and making sure one person's vote counts once. Those are set without asking, because without them the site can't do the thing you came to do.
One optional thing, page-view measurement, is off until you say yes. Saying no costs you nothing: every page and every vote works exactly the same either way.
at any time.
Strictly necessary — always on
| Cookie | What it does | Expires |
|---|---|---|
| rv_voter | A random identifier for this device, so one device can't nominate or vote twice. It holds no information about you and is not linked to your name. | 1 year |
| session_id | Keeps you signed in, if you have an account. Holds a random session reference, never your password. | 30 days |
| rv_consent | Remembers the choice you made on this page, so you aren't asked again every visit. | 6 months |
| admin_session | Only ever set for the people who run the site. You will never receive this one. | 7 days |
These are exempt from needing consent under regulation 6(4) of PECR, because the service you asked for cannot be provided without them. They're listed here anyway — being exempt from asking is not a reason to be quiet about it.
Analytics — off unless you say yes
If you agree, we load Vercel Web Analytics, which counts page views and where visitors arrived from. It tells us which brackets people care about. It sets no cookies of its own, stores no identifier on your device, and does not follow you to other websites.
If you decline, it is never loaded — not loaded and disabled, but absent from the page entirely. Under PECR a measurement script can't load first and ask afterwards, so this is enforced in the code that renders the page rather than in the script's own settings.
What we don't set
- No advertising or retargeting cookies.
- No social media tracking pixels — no Meta pixel, no TikTok pixel.
- No cross-site profiling, and nothing sold or passed to a data broker.
- No third-party fonts fetched at page load. Typefaces are downloaded when the site is built and served from our own domain, so Google never sees your visit.
Restaurant photographs
Where a restaurant has a photo, that image may be served from the address it was supplied from rather than from us. Loading any image tells the host serving it your IP address and browser — that is how the web works, not something specific to this site — but it is worth knowing, and it is the one case where your browser talks to a computer that isn't ours.
Turning them off in your browser
Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies in its settings. Blocking the necessary ones will stop you staying signed in, and the site will not be able to tell that you have already voted in a matchup.
For the optional one, the control on this site is the simpler route: .
